Japanese dentist won the Ignobel Prize! It may be said that it is the basis for preventing tooth decay

Hello everyone!

“Kasuga Dental Clinic” in Monzennakacho.

Well, great news was played on the morning of September 13th.

News from the “Ignobel Prize”.

The Ignobel Prize is an award that is sent to "research that made people laugh and think".

In 2019, a Japanese dentist won the award, so this time I will introduce the achievements.

  • Awarded male dentist

Prof. Shigeru Watanabe, Professor at Meikai University, won the Ignobel Prize in 2019. Originally I worked as a professor of pediatric dentistry at Meikai University School of Dentistry (Sakado City, Saitama Prefecture).

  • Research achievements

The research was conducted by Professor Watanabe's own children, who discovered the amount of saliva secretion in a 5-year-old child.

This research was published about 30 years ago.

At that time, there was no concept of dental caries prevention and each dentist was annoyed by how to prevent caries.

Focusing on the amount of saliva secretion is groundbreaking, and it is no exaggeration to say that it has become the basis for how to prevent tooth decay.

Our hospital protects the oral health of patients with treatments that have become major in recent years, such as fluorine.
